I used this book for my term project in my junior physics lab, which was electrical conductivity in metals. Dekker has a good discussion of this topic, as well as the free electron theory of metals, band theory, fermi levels, semiconductors, and the other traditional topics in solid state physics.
The edition that I own was published in /5(2). Solidstate physics is the study of rigid matter, or solids, through methods such as quantum mechanics, crystallography, electromagnetism, and is the largest branch of condensed matter state physics studies how the largescale properties of solid materials result from their atomicscalesolidstate physics forms a.
Solid State Physics, Volume 71 provides the latest volume in this longrunning series. This latest volume highlights new advances in the field, with this new volume presenting interesting chapters written by an international board of authors.
The text itself is an excellent introduction to solid state physics and rates 5 stars. The paper is cheap and not glossy. It is distracting to be able to see the text and figures from the opposite side of the page.

Asked to answer, so I’ll jump in here. Kittel is probably the most popular out there. I don’t like it as much, though, because in my opinion Kittel’s style is a bit terse in that he doesn’t provide as much detail into deriving the equations as I’d.

Now available in paperback, Solid State Physics is designed to serve as a first text for a course on the physics of solids. Updated to reflect recent work in the field, this book emphasizes crystalline solids, going from the crystal lattice to the ideas of reciprocal space and Brillouin zones, and develops these ideas for lattice vibrations, for the theory of metals, and f/5.
This book provides the basis for a twosemester graduate course on solidstate physics. The first half presents all the knowledge necessary for a onesemester survey of solidstate physics, but in greater depth than most introductory solid state physics courses.
Solid‐State Physics for Electronics. Editor(s): André Moliton; the thorough coverage of this book will facilitate an understanding of the technological processes used in the fabrication of electronic and photonic devices. The book opens with an introduction to the basic applied physics of simple electronic states and energy levels.
Modern solid state physics came of age in the late thirties and forties and is now is part of condensed matter physics which includes liquids, soft materials, and noncrystalline solids.
This solid state/condensed matter physics book begins with three broad areas: (1) How and why atoms bind together to form solids, (2) Lattice vibrations and. This book is designed for introductory courses at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
