Two Approaches to True Happiness. Setting aside the material, happiness can come about in two ways. On an ordinary level, there are many ways we can train our mind in happiness.
For example, we can choose loving. Rather, according to Seligman, true, enduring happiness (i.e. ‘authentic happiness’) is the result of paying attention to one’s personal strengths rather than focusing on perceived weaknesses.
Seligman, who has been described as the father of positive psychology, applies psychological research that has been developing over a long period. This translation of the Discourse on Happiness has been prepared by Thich Nhat Hanh from the Mahamangala Sutta (Sutta Nipata 1) in Pali.
